November 8, 2026
More than a year has gone by since Brian passed, and I still think about him and Christine all the time. Some couples stay with you long after their gallery is delivered, and these two are near the top of that list for me. This post is my small way of honoring Brian, and of keeping the day he and Christine shared somewhere it can’t get lost in a newsfeed.

Remembering Brian
Brian and Christine were high school sweethearts. Life took them down different roads for a long time. Brian drove a truck, Christine worked in education, and each of them raised a daughter. But what they had back then never really went away, and when they found their way back to each other, they both knew they weren’t letting go this time.

If you were there on their wedding day, you saw it right away. Brian smiled the whole day, and he looked at Christine like she was his whole world. They said their vows under the trees at Carpenter Park here in Springfield, surrounded by the people they love most, and that night the celebration at The Stockyard was full of laughter, happy tears and long hugs. It felt like a homecoming for both of them.

Only a few weeks later, Brian passed away from a sudden heart attack. I’ll never fully understand why, but I’m grateful I got to spend that day with him, and I’m grateful these photos exist for Christine and their families.
The Post We Shared After We Lost Him
Shortly after Brian passed, I sat down and wrote this for our Facebook page. I didn’t really know how to put it into words then, and I’m not sure I do now, but I wanted it to live here too, next to the photos from their day.
They Finally Got Their Forever… And Then, Everything Changed.
I’ve carried this story in my heart for days, not knowing how to put it into words.
It’s beautiful.
It’s heart-wrenching.
And it’s something I’ll never forget.
Christine and Brian were high school sweethearts.
Life led them down separate roads, each raising a daughter, each chasing their dreams.
He became a truck driver. She worked in education. Years passed. Time moved on.
But love like theirs?
It waits. Quietly. Faithfully.
And when it found its way back, they knew. This time, they weren’t letting go.
Just a few weeks ago, they stood hand in hand beneath the trees at Carpenter Park in Springfield, IL, surrounded by the people they loved most.
No spotlight. No spectacle. Just two souls choosing each other, with everything they had.
That night at The Stockyard, the celebration overflowed: laughter, tears, hugs that lasted a little longer.
It wasn’t just a wedding.
It was a homecoming.
Then, only weeks later, Brian was gone.
A sudden heart attack.
Unthinkable.
Unfair.
Real.
I’ve sat with the photos from that day, over and over.
His smile.
The way he looked at her like she was the whole world.
The way he held her hand like he finally made it home.
These are the moments that matter.
These are the memories that remain when everything else slips away.
As a wedding photographer, I hope people don’t see me as just someone that takes portraits. In a small way, I hope I help keep people like Brian’s memory alive.
Christine, thank you for your trust, for your story, and for showing us all what true love looks like.
This wasn’t just a wedding.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime love story.
So please…
Hold your people close.
Take the pictures.
Say what you need to say.
Because none of us are promised forever.
With love and prayers,
Chris Withers Photography

Still Holding On to That Day
Looking back at these photos now, I still see the same things I saw that afternoon: Brian’s easy smile, the way he couldn’t take his eyes off Christine, and two people who were so glad they’d found their way home to each other.

Christine, thank you for trusting me with your day and for letting me share Brian’s story. He’s someone I’ll never forget, and I hope these photos help keep his smile close for everyone who loves him.
With love and prayers,
Chris
